This drawing workshop will primarily be exploring the use and possibilities of colour through drawing with coloured pencils. Working with paint or artist pastels is also possible. The course will begin with a basic introduction to colour theory, creating colour exercises such as a colour wheel before moving forward.

Students will be guided and encouraged to use colour practically and experimentally using various subjects ranging from still life, landscape and the human figure.
The course will cover issues of composition, elements and principles of design, using colour, tonal value both in line and mass as well as recognising the relationship of realism to abstraction.
As well as covering the use of various materials that have an effect on the use of colour, including for example the use of coloured grounds/ supports and how applied colour is affected by the ground.


Coloured drawing/painting materials, drawing paper/sketchbook etc.

Individual requirements discussed regarding materials needed going forward,i.e paints, wet or dry drawing equipment.
