Mixed Media for Beginners - Jane Alexander

This course has no current classes. Please the waiting list.

Mixed media is an endless adventure into experimentation limited only by your imagination. In this introductory class you will learn how to abstract an image, adding layers and textures to your drawings and paintings to create your own mixed media works.

The first lesson will be playing with ink and different papers to create a still life.

Over future weeks we will work towards a mixed media painting, stepping you through the process of planning and executing your work.

First lesson

Bring  a variety of white tissue paper/ brown paper/card board / yupo paper which can be stuck to  a large sheet of heavy weight mixed media paper, glue, scissors, white gesso, charcoal, and waterproof black ink (optional other inks that you may have such as blue black quink, or water soluble wolffe carbon or graphite pencils etc). Tools such as soft hake brushes in a variety of thicknesses or other flat and round brushes, or ink pens/sticks/feathers/string etc to see what effects can be made with the ink. 4 small containers to mix ink into a variety of strengths.
