Learn to build an Onggi sculptural pot with tutor Chris Ma. Chris will demonstrate the techniques used to build these voluminous vessels.
Directly translated, Onggi means jar-vessel. It is a form of coiling folk pottery traditionally used for food storage. Vessels vary from a small bowl to a big storage jar.
In the modern era, Onggi are identified as having a wide rim and bottom with a voluminous shape that tapers down from the shoulder to the belly.
The Onggi can also be built in a contemporary/abstract form.
