Come and learn how to draw and paint birds in mixed media with Jody Graham. Spend two full days immersed in the bird world, learning techniques to help you capture their awe-inspiring avian beauty and expressive qualities.
Learn fun, easy-to-follow drawing and mixed media painting approaches designed to strengthen your observation skills and individual expression. Demonstrations throughout the class will guide students through a combination of drawing and mixed media techniques. All projects over the two days are designed to promote the creation of unique artworks about the birds we admire and love.

Materials List
Note: The tutor supplies some reference material, but please bring your own bird images as well.
- Black marker: Artline black marker or an ink pen.
- A3 cartridge paper: One book for drawing exercises.
- Mixed media paper: Two to three sheets of 300gsm smooth grain.
- Watercolour paper: One full sheet of 300gsm hot-pressed paper.
- 4B pencil: One pencil, plus a sharpener.
- Hard eraser: One eraser (Faber-Castell Pencil Grip suggested).
- Charcoal: A selection of willow and compressed charcoal.
- Coloured ink: One 50ml bottle of Art Spectrum ink (or similar). Tip: Choose a bright colour
- Acrylic paint: Matisse Structure Acrylic Paint Intro Set or similar (intro set of 5 x 12ml tubes).
- Mixed media paper pad: A3 smooth 300gsm pad or similar. (3 pieces min requirement)
- Brushes: A few small and large paintbrushes.
- Palette: One art palette or a disposable palette pad.
- Containers: Several containers to hold ink and water.
General Art Supplies
- A hard eraser
- Self-release painters masking tape
- Paper towels
- Bulldog clips (to attach paper to the supplied art boards and easels)
