Suitable for beginners to advanced students.
This workshop will incorporate the carving & registration techniques of used in traditional Japanese methods of exacting registration. Inking will be done in a western style with a selection rollers and relief inks, printing with be done by hand with barens or on the studio presses.
Images may contain 4-6 colours allowing for a block to be carved for each colour.
Paper size will be restricted to A4 and the blocks slightly larger allowing paper registration to be carved onto the blocks. Students will produce a small edition of a multi block image with a selection of papers both European and East Asian. Maximum image size 15cm x 23cm portrait or landscape. Images must be kept simple to allow time for carving several blocks.
The image idea may start as black and white and then colours incorporated as needed.
A folder of technical notes and suppliers will be supplied and emphasis on carving techniques and tool sharpening to be incorporated.
Tutor to supply a materials kit including blocks, printing papers and a selection of carving tools will be available along with Hydraset relief printing inks ( non toxic ) cleaned up with detergent and water.
