Materials List | Term 4 2025

First day drawing exercise.

The first day of term always includes a drawing session for basic creative discipline. After which you can talk to me about your work ideas for the term, get started on these or use the ‘drawing exercise subject’ as inspiration for painting or further drawing

The set drawing subject is a ‘portrait’ of a pair of shoes.

These can belong to you or someone else; partner, parent, children, grandchildren. Shoes can be loaded with character and story and these qualities can be captured intuitively in your drawing.

Materials

  • Drawing pencils; 4B, 6B and a graphite pencil
  • Charcoal
  • Bottle of Baby Oil
  • Soft rag
  • Black drawing ink and ink pens, one with a medium to fat nib, the other with a brush tip. Good brands; Artline or Staedtler pigment liner.
  • Wash brush.
  • Good drawing paper or light watercolour paper

This subject can be developed into any abstract format on canvas or paper.

Bring all your usual working materials collage papers, oils sticks, acrylic etc.

Awhile back I toyed with the idea of making a concertina book drawing as part of a lesson. If you would like to try this bring another sheet of heavier watercolour paper for the ‘book. black ink and wash drawings are easier to fragment into a book so you should bring black ink as a medium for one of your research drawings.
