Room with a View with Kate Nielsen

Inspired by the spaces we inhabit and the views beyond them, Room with a View is a nine-week painting course that explores the rich relationship between interior and exterior spaces through contemporary painting.

Led by Sydney artist Kate Nielsen, whose work is exhibited nationally and internationally, students will investigate colour, light, pattern, composition and personal narrative while developing their own unique visual language. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Vuillard and Hockney, participants will learn how to transform everyday rooms, windows, objects and views into compelling contemporary paintings.

Through demonstrations, discussion, practical exercises and individual mentoring, students will develop a substantial body of work that moves beyond simple observation and into personal interpretation. Whether working from direct observation, photographs or memory, students will be encouraged to explore what makes a space meaningful and how painting can communicate atmosphere, emotion and story.

Suitable for intermediate and experienced painters working in acrylic, oil or mixed media.
