Collage, Texture and Stitched Landscapes with Jody Graham / 1 Day Workshop

Suitable for all levels

Immerse yourself in a playful, hands-on workshop where imagination meets landscape. Using collage, texture, shape, and composition, you’ll create layered new worlds inspired by both reference materials and spontaneous experimentation. We’ll explore how papers, fabrics, and found materials can influence the mood, structure, and atmosphere of your artwork, allowing unexpected landscapes to emerge naturally through the process. Throughout the day, participants will tear, glue, layer, and stitch materials together to build richly textured landscape pieces full of personality and depth. You’ll investigate collage techniques, composition, and the creative use of shape while developing your own visual language and approach to landscape making. This workshop is relaxed, creative, and open to all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced makers wanting to explore new ideas. Come ready to experiment, play, and discover surprising landscapes through collage. 

Materials

Materials to Bring 

• Large sewing needle (Spotlight usually stocks these)
• Cooking twine and/or string
• Mixed media drawing & painting materials. Whatever you already have will likely be suitable. If purchasing materials, suggestions include:
  • 1 stick compressed charcoal
  • Titanium White acrylic paint
  • Venetian Red acrylic paint
  • Yellow Oxide acrylic paint
  • Ultramarine Blue acrylic paint
  • Similar colours and inexpensive acrylic paints are completely fine
  • A couple of brushes, mix of sizes
• 4 sheets of A4 or A3 heavyweight paper (200gsm or heavier). Smooth or textured paper ok
• A few pieces of lighter-weight paper for collage and painting experiments
• Patterned paper, fabric scraps, old drawings, or unsuccessful paintings for collage
• Reference images of landscapes
• Matisse Derivan Polymer Varnish, satin if possible or similar type of glue for collage  
• Steel wool
• Scissors
• Masking tape
• Paper towel

• A variety of collage materials
