Not suitable for complete beginners. Some painting or drawing experience is required.
An expressive and bold approach to the landscape tradition. Students will develop skills to paint and draw the landscape in an immediate, powerful and spontaneous way.
Day 1 will involve quick studies and experimental pieces as well as demonstrations from Tim. Day 2 will focus on creating larger finished canvases.
An exciting and rewarding class with great camaraderie.
Materials:
Initial studies and experiments will be in charcoal or mixed media. Students can work in either oil or acrylic paints for finished work (or both, using acrylics as underpainting).
Source material (optional):
- Photographs of a landscape you’ve visited multiple times; a place you’ve really enjoyed. Multiple photos with different angles, including detail shots, will give you the most options.
- Plein air sketches, charcoal or pencil in sketchbook
- Researched artists
- Earlier finished work
