Beginners to intermediate welcome.
This course will introduce you to the possibilities of drawing as an endeavour to challenge the way we see, imagine, and discover the world around us.
Working directly from objects, students will develop observational drawing skills exploring conceptual and perceptual processes, and develop familiarity with a range of materials, techniques, and strategies to engage with drawing as a means of creative expression.
Materials and methods explored include graphite, coloured pencil, and additive and subtractive methods with willow and compressed charcoal.
Materials List
Paper
- 5 sheets of A2 Cartridge paper (typically 110–220gsm)
Media and stationery
- Bring what you have!
- Graphite pencils (HB, 2B and/or 4B)
- Willow charcoal (thin, medium, and thick sized sticks)
- Compressed charcoal (2B or 4B)
- Charcoal-pencils (B, 2B or 4B - hard, medium, soft)
- A selection of coloured pencils, including blue, brown and red.
- Fixative spray
- Kneadable eraser and Plastic eraser
- Masking tape
- Ruler
- Sharpener
- Optional: Paper Stumps
Other
- Paper Towel/Rags
- Miscellaneous paper (test paper, protective sheets)
- Notebook
