Ignite your creative imagination, broaden your drawing skills with new approaches, or simply learn how to ‘loosen up’ your drawings with this six-week intensive course to help you to explore your artistic potential.
This course will provide you with the encouragement and instruction you need to explore your creativity and try something new. Each week students will be introduced to stimulating exercises and be inspired by stunning works from renowned artists. Students will engage with the elements of drawing including the creative generation of line, shape, tone, mark making, and texture, accompanied by an expansive approach to understanding drawing relationships.
This course is suitable for all levels of experience, from people embarking on the start of their artistic journey through to experienced artists looking for new provocations to expand their artistic practice.
Materials List
Supports:
- 20 – 25 sheets of A2 - A1 Cartridge paper (typically 110–220gsm). NOTE: Only cartridge paper is required for week 1, in our first class we will discuss alternative supports that are listed below but are not mandatory.
- A2 or A3 White/cream Drawing or Watercolour paper (300 gsm)
- Fabriano Tiziano Pastel paper or Canson ‘Mi-Teintes’ paper (55 x 75 cm, 160gsm), or other pastel drawing paper, in 'Tan' or another colour of preference (such as khaki, steel grey, sage, burgundy, etc).
- Alternative supports for experimentation such at primed cardboard, board, canvas, fabric, collaged materials etc.
Media:
Bring what you have!
- Graphite pencils (HB, 2B and/or 4B) and handful of coloured pencils.
- Willow charcoal (thin, medium, and thick sized sticks)
- Compressed charcoal (2B or 4B)
- Charcoal-pencils (B, 2B or 4B - hard, medium, soft)
- Pigment/Drawing ink
- Art liner pens (brush tip pens are a great option for gestural line)
- White acrylic or gesso paint
- Fixative spray
Stationery:
- Flat and Pointed Brushes and/or Chinese calligraphy brushes
- Watercolour Palette, Water Container
- Kneadable eraser and Plastic eraser/large hard eraser (recommend Sennelier soap eraser).
- Masking tape
- Ruler
- Sharpener
- Optional: Paper Stumps
Other:
- Paper Towel/Rags
- Miscellaneous paper (test paper, protective sheets)
- Notebook
