Discover the expressive and fluid world of ink drawing in this fun and immersive workshop designed for all levels of experience.

Throughout the day, participants will explore drawing with a range of ink tools including fountain pens, brushes, and liquid inks. Through guided exercises and observational drawing, you will experiment with mark making, line, tone, and expressive sketching techniques. The workshop encourages a relaxed and intuitive approach to drawing, helping participants develop expressive techniques for sketchbook practice, travel drawing, and drawing on location.

In this workshop you will learn:

• How to use fountain pens, ink, and brushes effectively
• Expressive ink drawing techniques
• How to create spontaneity and flow in your drawings
• Tips for sketchbook drawing while travelling or drawing out in public

The techniques explored throughout the workshop will help you develop a more confident, portable, and enjoyable sketchbook practice that can continue well beyond the day.

Whether you are completely new to ink or looking to learn how to draw, this workshop offers a relaxed and encouraging environment to experiment, play, and build confidence.

• Reference images and subject matter to draw from will be supplied during the workshop.

Materials List

You will need to bring:

• Black ink – suggest Sumi
• Palette or small dish for ink
• Chinese drawing brush (small or medium)
• Artline pen
• Water brush pen
• A3 smooth grain 300gsm paper
  Suggested brands: Art Spectrum Draw & Wash Pad or Canson
• Paper towel
• 2B pencil and sharpener

Optional

• Fountain pen (Lamy or similar recommended – broad nib)
• Box of black ink refills
